1. Overanalyzing Everything
There’s always a person who makes endless pros and cons lists, and analyses everything to death. Is that you? If so, this could be adding unnecessary stress to your life. One of the hardest things to do is just let go. Do it you must. Not everything has to be perfect. Perfection is just a myth anyway. Do your best to improve, but forget about achieving perfection.
2. Not Living In the Moment
Are you stressed out because you feel like life is passing you by? Then stop and literally smell the roses! Life can only pass you by if you let it. Practicing living in the moment takes time, but it’s time well spent.
Many times we are so worried about what happens next that we miss what’s happening right now. Savor the fun moments with your spouse, friends or kids without worrying about the mess you are making or a deadline of some kind.
3. Worrying About Your Appearance
Do you sit around all day judging what everyone else is wearing and doing, and what they have and you don’t? Why create unnecessary stress in your life worrying about how you look to other people when the reality is, most of them couldn’t care less? They are too worried about their own appearance to notice yours!
4. Being Surrounded By Toxic People
Do the people you spend your time with make you feel anxious, nervous or bad about yourself? If the answer is yes then it’s time to find new people! Stress brought on by the actions of others is unhealthy and unnecessary. Find supportive, optimistic people who can help you to cultivate a more peaceful quality of life.
5. Staying In a Dead End Job
We all have to make a living, but there’s no rule that says you have to stay in a job that is not satisfying or rewarding. One of the worst things you can do is stay in a field or office where your potential is unappreciated or limited. You owe it to yourself to find work that is meaningful and fulfilling.
6. Biting Off More than You Can Chew
Saying “no” is an underused technique for eliminating a lot of stress in your life. Taking on too much, being constantly overextended or never having any time for you is a one-way ticket to Stressville. If you find yourself with more than you can handle don’t just let yourself and everyone down by not coming through, admit it and ask for help. Remember, “no” is a complete sentence; use it.
One of the simplest things you can do to eliminate stress in your life is to get rid of clutter. Organizational experts recommend envisioning how you want your life and possessions to be in an ideal world. Then start tackling the problem a little bit at a time while making a plan to keep the clutter from piling back up. The sense of control and being proactive will bring down your stress level and bump up your productivity.
8. Grudges and Anger
Famous pacifist Ghandi once said,” Forgiveness is an attribute of the strong.” It does take a lot of internal fortitude to put a painful experience behind you and move on. Letting go of anger and grudges is not about excusing the person who wronged you or not caring about a wrongdoing, it’s simply not letting that person or situation control you.
Finding a way to forgive, letting go of rage and hurt feelings will have a positive affect on your health and wellbeing. You will feel calmer, sleep better and able to turn your attention to the good things and people in your life instead of dwelling on the bad.
9. Living in The Past
This stressful way of life goes hand in hand with holding a grudge and anger. Letting things that happened in the past control you in the present is a stress-inducing waste of time. Making peace with your past and leaving it behind will lift a stress-load off your life and allow you to start living in the moment.
Complaining is focusing on the negative and solves nothing. Why prolong the stress of anything by endlessly complaining about it? Instead of focusing on what’s wrong find a solution to make it right.
11. Poor Diet
Enough with the junk food, skipping meals or bingeing already! It’s common knowledge now that you ARE in fact, what you eat. If your menu consists of sugary, fattening, preservative filled garbage then you will feel like garbage.
It’s scientific fact that eating fresh, whole foods that are not laden with preservatives has a direct effect on your mood so take action and cut out the junk food and pick up an apple instead. Stress be gone!
If there is anything more stressful and useless than holding a grudge, it’s jealousy. It’s a time-wasting emotion that is a symptom of your own deep insecurities and fears. Instead of wasting time and being stressed out feeling jealous about someone else’ success or your partner get help to discover the roots of your insecurities and fears so you can banish them and stressful jealous emotions from your life for good.
